The Department of Buildings ensures that construction and building projects are up to code, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. They work closely with the Chicago Fire Department in an effort to keep residents as well as visitors out of harm's way. The department is a collaboration between safety-focused professionals who make sure buildings have proper permits before they're built on top measures for quality assurance such as inspection processes.

No inspector ever showed up at neighbors despite our repeated complaints, as well as others complaints. Neighbor had no permit yet completely rehabbed building and added a deck. They never rented a dumpsterof course so loaded our trash with debris etc. To make it worse, others in area were given bs violations for not posting owner on building etc. I'm sure they're paid off, typical city crooks who were handed these easy jobs

Really thoughtful people, they want you to get the project done and actually go out of their way to help you avoid getting caught up in the standard traps that delay many construction projects.

I completely rehabbed my building in the Albany Park area and I wanted to go to court before year's end to dismiss the complaints so I can rent the property. I only had 2 weeks to go. I need Final Inspection from 4 departments: New Construction, Electrical, Plumbing and finally Ventilation. I personally spoke with the Supervisors of each department. I was touched. They all went out of their way to accommodate. I cannot complain. Just approach them kindly and don't have an attitude. They Are Human Beings Too!!!

They don't answer the phone. The permit process is terrible. The inspectors hand out high fines for just about anything and make mistakes. Corruption at its best.

Not sure why everyone in Illinois seems to hate their lives, but every time we call for questions, everyone acts like I am being the biggest inconvenience. I always am tiptoeing because I am just waiting for the person on the phone to lose their cool or blow up on me. Here's a little bit of advice: be kind to others and others will be kind to you.
