In 1919, electrician Chuck Hadley (Jack Oakie) befriends former pilot Rix Martin (John Payne), and the men become interested in developing radio as an entertainment tool. With Chuck's girlfriend, singer Vicki Adams (Alice Faye), the men arrange a broadcast -- but disaster strikes, and the event is a failure. Undaunted, the friends continue, airing a successful boxing broadcast with the help of a wealthy investor. But their success is threatened when Chuck discovers Vicki is in love with Rix.
