But, so long as you know what you're getting when you step foot into the Conservatory - this is exactly the kind of hole in the wall place you'll want to spend your Friday night. The owner, who also runs the vinyl store right next door, manages to book some decent sized bands (bands that, in Dallas, would be playing venues more like The Door), as well as fun local ones and events. There's always something interesting going on, and some GREAT local talent plays here, so keep an eye out. The venue itself is small, but that lends itself to a certain atmosphere. I've seen bands have a conga line through the crowd, or play an acoustic set afterwards out back, or once went to see Steel Train play there and their lead singer joked that, "This is where we'd normally walk offstage and then come back for our encore, but there is no backstage. So just pretend." It's a must see for any music fan in the state, and the kind of venue that is often forgotten about. But I love it.
