Downtown in December invites holiday visitors and families to enjoy five Sundays of culture, art, history and music during Oklahoma City Community Foundation Free Museum Sundays. Beginning Nov. 29, one of four participating Downtown museums will be open for free from 1 – 6 p.m. each Sunday. On the last Sunday, December 27, all of the participating museums will open for a free grand finale. Participating museums are the American Banjo Museum, Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum, The Oklahoma City Museum of Art and the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

Dec. 6 - American Banjo Museum - 9 E. Sheridan Avenue
Dec. 13 – Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum - 1400 Classen Drive (13th & Shartel)
Dec. 20 - Oklahoma City Museum of Art - 415 Couch Drive
Dec. 27 - All four museums FREE

The American Banjo Museum showcases more than 300 instruments, the largest collection on public display in the world. Examples include replicas of primitive banjos developed by African slaves in the Old South, Minstrel Age instruments from 19th century, post WWII instruments used in bluegrass, folk and world music, and museum's core collection of ornately decorated banjos made in America during the Jazz Age of the 1920's and 30s. Through the high-tech, interactive exhibits at the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum, visitors can experience Oklahoma’s story through its people.  Video-driven displays and touchscreens showcase the accomplishments and impact of Oklahomans like country music superstar Reba McEntire, aviation innovator Wiley Post and BMX superstar Mat Hoffman. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum was created to honor those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The Memorial and Museum are dedicated to educating visitors about the impact of violence, informing about events surrounding the bombing, and inspiring hope and healing through lessons learned by those affected. For more information visit www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org.
