The history of painting birds in Chinese brushwork dates back at least 2,000 years. After a time, birds were combined with flowers to suggest poetic and philosophical ideas. A few strokes of the brush can suggest the shape and movement of birds or the graceful beauty of many flowers. In this workshop, we will study flower and bird painting in the “free brush” style, using ink and watercolor on rice paper.
