The grand lawn of the Civic Center Music Hall transforms into an icy entertainment zone on November 27 when the popular Downtown in December Devon Ice Rink opens for its eighth season. The newly designed rink features crystal clear walls and enhanced lighting creating a magical holiday wonderland. The 62-foot by 150-foot rink is expected to attract more than 28,000 thrill-seeking skaters in 2009.

The Devon Ice Rink is open every day from November 27 through January 3. Rink hours are noon to 10 p.m. with special holiday hours including Christmas Eve until 5 p.m., Christmas Day until 10 p.m. and New Year’s Eve until 11 p.m. Cost to skate is $8, which includes skate rental and a two-hour session. Skating is just $5 for those who supply their own skates. The Civic Center is located at 201 N Walker and is a special holiday stop on the free Oklahoma Spirit Trolley route. Expert ice sculptor Ken Burkemper will enthrall audiences by chiseling whimsical holiday frosty art from massive blocks of ice from 6 – 9 p.m. on December 3, 10, and 17. On Disco Friday Night, you can shake your groove thing on ice from 6-10 p.m. every Friday including Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Skaters and visitors can refuel at the Downtown in December Ice Rink Café with hot cocoa, coffee, soda, corn dogs, chicken, and hamburgers.
