Oklahoma City, Okla. (January 21, 2010) - City Arts Center and the Skirvin Hilton Hotel are pleased to present a contemporary art lecture with internationally renowned artist and educator Michael Craig-Martin. The lecture will take place on Monday, February 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel.
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, he was educated in the United States at Yale University but eventually settled in England where he now lives.
In 1969 Craig-Martin had his first solo exhibition at the Rowan Gallery in London. Since then, he has had numerous exhibitions and installations in museums and public galleries around the world. He is currently represented by the Gagosian Gallery.
He is known not only for his artwork, but also as an influential tutor at Goldsmiths College in London. Craig-Martin is also considered to be a key figure in the emergence of the Young British Artists (YBAs) in the early 90s. His former students include Ian Davenport, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Liam Gillick, Michael Landy, Sarah Lucas, Julian Opie and Fiona Rae.
From 1989 to 1999 he was an Artist Trustee of the Tate Gallery. He also received a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 2001. In 2006 he was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts.
