Carousing with Cupid

A local Harry Potter Alliance chapter will host its second annual fundraising ball at Oklahoma City University.

The Oklahoma Wizards League (OWL) will present Carousing with Cupid, a Valentine’s-themed ball sprinkled with elements of the popular book series that will raise money for the Harry Potter Alliance, a non-profit organization, and STAND, the student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network. The ball will be held in the Great Hall of the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.

Professor Lockhart will emcee the ball. He will also be on hand for photo ops and autographs!

Muffliato Auction:

Last year's auction raised an additional $500, and this year is going to be even better!

We will once again have one-of-a-kind band merchandise, such as the screen Adam Dubberly used to print the last batch of Mudbloods t-shirts in existence and a custom-made original song by Christian Caldeira of Oliver Boyd & The Remembralls (hopping hippogriffs, is that amazing or what?!?); Hogwarts-themed gift baskets; hand-knit items; and more!

Auction items can be purchased with cash or checks, but no credit cards, please.
“With our wizard rock theme, this will be a Valentine’s dance that’s a little different from the norm,” said Kassy Nicholson, spokesperson for OWL.
The group has lined up six “wizard rock” bands from around the nation to perform including Ministry of Magic, Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls, the Remus Lupins, the Whomping Willows and Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills.

“I’m really excited for this year’s OKC event,” said Christian Caldeira, front man for Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls, which will perform at the ball for the second year. “Last year was a great time with a lot of great bands. I’m sure this year will be even better.”

The master of ceremonies will be Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, the only Hogwarts professor to acknowledge Valentine’s Day in the Harry Potter series. Lockhart will be played by actor Michael Etzkorn.

Attendees can also bid on items in the Muffliato Auction, a silent auction featuring autographed band merchandise, books, Hogwarts-themed gift baskets, crafts and other items. Muffliato is a magic spell in the book series that allows the characters to talk without being overheard.

Nicholson said last year’s ball and auction raised more than $2,000 for the organizations.
The OCU English Department and Sigma Tau Delta honor society are co-sponsoring the event.
