The Oklahoma City Orchestra League invites student musicians to participate in its annual Music Olympics competition Feb. 12 at Oklahoma City University.

The competition is open to elementary, middle school and high school students in Oklahoma. The competition is divided into six categories: The Buttram Competition for string players in grades 9-12, the Carver Competition for brass, woodwind, harp and percussion students in grades 9-12, and the Gilliam Competition for pianists in grade eight and younger. The Donna Marie Haire Competition is open to classical guitar students in grades 9-12, the Keith Competition for string players in grade 8 and younger, and the Meinders Competition for pianists in grades 9-12.

Deadline to apply is Jan. 20. Winners in each level will receive a cash prize. A winners concert will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 19 in OCU's Petree Recital Hall, 2501 N Blackwelder. Weave on a Floor Loom

Have you always wanted to try weaving? In just one day, you will weave a rayon scarf in your choice of colors. Looms are pre-warped and ready to go. You’ll learn how to wind bobbins, throw and catch the shuttle, tromp on treadles, and develop a consistent beat. Leave with a beautiful scarf you’ll be proud to wear!

Nancy Peterson has been weaving at City Arts Center for more than eight years beginning as a student in the weaving program. She has taught both beginning and intermediate weaving workshops. She received the Technical Excellence in Weaving Award in Fiberworks 2008.

Sandra Lawson will sign her juvenile fiction book "The Best Baker in the World!" from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 11.

Mike Shores and Jim Ike will present “Bringing Your Media Into the Digital Age” at the CCOKC Genealogy Study Group at 9 a.m. Saturday at the CCOKC Resource Center, 3000 United Founders Blvd., Suite 201.

Today’s digital world is changing rapidly, thus forcing existing files to be converted to modern computer formats. For years genealogists and family historians have recorded information about their families in computer documents, pictures, audio and video format. The presentation will demonstrate hardware and software used to convert these files to the digital world of today.

“The Master Genealogist” or “Legacy” genealogy database programs study groups will meet at 11 a.m.
