Norman Ballet Company Announces
Tickets Go On Sale For The 2009 Oklahoma Nutcracker
Norman’s most popular holiday tradition, The Oklahoma Nutcracker, will return to the Sooner Theatre this December for its eighth season. Tickets for the production will go on sale to the general public on Monday, November 16 and can be purchased either online at www.ticketstorm.com or by calling 1-866-966-1777.
The Oklahoma Nutcracker will be performed on Saturday, December 19, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 20, at 2 p.m. at the Sooner Theatre. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
The Norman Ballet Company's version of the beloved ballet classic, the Nutcracker, is centered around Oklahoma historical figures (the Henry Overholser family) in Act I and celebrates Oklahoma natural treasures in Act II, while still retaining the traditional Nutcracker story and score by Tchaikovsky. "Our audiences come from around the state every year to see their favorite characters in the ballet", states Marjorie Kovich, Artistic Director. "I would guess that some of the most popular characters are the Mama Armadillo and her babies, the Scissortail Flycatcher and of course the children in the party scene depicted in the Overholser Mansion drawing room."
Norman Ballet Company members and apprentices, as well as ballet students from studios throughout central Oklahoma will be dancing in the production. Guest artists Charlotte Loyd Hart and Reuben Gerding will join the cast, dancing the roles of the Sand Plum Fairy and her Prince.
Complementing The Oklahoma Nutcracker performances will be the popular Sand Plum Fairy Tea Parties, an event held specifically for families and children at the Depot in downtown Norman. The tea parties, which are held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday before the matinee performances, include reserved seating, crafts, and the opportunity to meet the Sand Plum Fairy in person. Tickets for the Sand Plum Fairy Tea Party are $18 and can also be purchased through the Ticket Storm box office.
This year Norman Ballet Company is celebrating its 25th year of bringing quality ballet performances to the Norman community and surrounding areas. Former company dancers are expected to attend the performances and join the celebratory event planned following the Sunday matinee.
Do not miss this chance to celebrate the treasures of Oklahoma and the magic of the holiday season with the Oklahoma Nutcracker this winter!
The 2009 performances of The Oklahoma Nutcracker are made possible in part by grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Norman Arts Council, and donations from local businesses and individuals.
