Therapy dogs are coming to the Moore Public Library as part of an ongoing program to encourage children to read.
The Books, Barks and Buddies program will be from 7 to 8 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month, beginning January 10.
The program is a joint project of Tail Waggin' Tutors, Therapy Dogs International and Creatures and Kids Inc.
The dogs and handlers will be at the library at 225 S Howard Ave. for reading sessions with children. The motto of the program is "Reading Is Knowledge; Knowledge Is Power; Paws a While to Read."
The dogs are trained to listen while children read to them. Kids can improve their reading skills by reading aloud to a dog in sessions that last 15 minutes.
The program is free, but registration is required. To register, visit the children's service desk at the library or call 793-4347.
