Dare Rudd (John Wayne) and Dinkey (Syd Saylor) are two friends who love to gamble. Needing money and shelter, they travel to Montana to visit Rudd's cousin, Tom (Johnny Mack Brown), who owns a successful cattle ranch. Dare quickly falls for Tom's girlfriend Judy (Marsha Hunt), who convinces Tom to give Dare a chance to prove himself by running a cattle drive. When he loses the herd in a high-stakes poker game, Dare joins forces with Tom and Dinkey to get the cattle back.
