BEGINNING and ADVANCED students will learn the fundamentals of drawing, color theory, painting, sculpture and art history. We will draw from life in the tradition of classical realism. Direct observation and understanding of the subject are key elements of beginning as well as advanced drawing and painting. Through instructor demonstration, lecture, individual instruction and practice, students will learn the practical, step-by-step construction of the still life or landscape or portrait. Students will learn the methods and techniques of the great masters by making copies of paintings and drawings.

In this course, the student will learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing. Each session will begin with quick, intuitive gesture drawing studies followed by a long pose. Through demonstration, lecture and individual critique, Leslie will guide the student through the systematic process of creating a beautiful drawing from the live model.

INSTRUCTOR: GLEN THOMAS
Students learn to render the human figure quickly and accurately by working each week with live models. Early emphasis is on creating quick gestural drawings. As the class progresses an emphasis is placed on expressive line, value, perspective and proportion. Glen gives weekly demonstrations and provides individual attention throughout. Basic drawing skills are recommended.

This class provides beginning students with a solid foundation in drawing. Narciso focuses on the fundamentals through work with line, shape, value and form. Various techniques are exposed using pencil, charcoal and prismacolor while working from still life. Formal principals such as shading, proportion and composition are covered.

Through the gentle and fun tutelage by Ella Moore, your child will learn the fundamentals of drawing in the classical tradition. A practical, step-by-step curriculum will be used to teach the basic principles of line, shapes, shadows and light through direct observation, demonstration and individual attention. Mrs. Moore will introduce your child to exciting mediums and techniques used by both the old masters and modern masters of today.

Join our guest artists on Saturdays, 1-4 pm, as they help families to create extraordinary works of art inspired by the Museum’s collection, exhibitions, and special occasions throughout the year. No advance registration is required for you and your children to drop in and make and take a unique creation home with you! Free with paid Museum admission.
