“Don’t Feed the Plants!”
Upstage Theatre is thrilled to announce their two weekend run (February 9-11 & 16-18) of this gleefully gruesome cult classic. With its energetic songs and quirky characters, this musical is sure to please the audiences . . .
Down-and-out Skid Row floral assistant Seymour becomes and overnight sensation after he discovers an exotic plant with a strange craving for fresh blood. In order for Seymour to win the heart of his co-worker Audrey (who seems to always fall for the bad guys), Seymour agrees to give the plant what it needs. Before Seymour knows it, his plant “Audrey II” grows into a mean, foul-mouthed, smooth singing man-eater.
“Little Shop of Horrors” has been made into two movies and is one of the longest running Off-Broadway musicals of all time. The score was written by the popular team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, & Aladdin). Their songs straddle the line of satire and joy and will leave the audience tapping the feet!
Directed and choreographed by Upstage Theatre’s Artistic Director Jenny Rottmayer, Music Directed by Angie McKenna, & designed by Brett Rottmayer.
The production stars Jennifer Teel as Audrey, Patrick Towne as Seymour, Eric Key as Mr. Mushnik, Brett Rottmayer as Orin the Dentist & other various roles, Clayton Blair as the voice of Audrey II, John Lackey as the puppeteer; and featuring Katy Hirsch, Hannah Finnegan, and Meg Cathey as The Urchins (Greek Chorus style trio of school drop-outs). It also features a small ensemble including Zoe Pike, Leah Clemenson, and Libby Ennenga.
