Edmond police officers are offering an inside look at how the department operates during their 13-week Citizens Police Academy.
The 26th Citizen Police Academy begins September 1, 2009.
Classes are FREE. There is no limit on class size.
The program is designed to give Edmond residents a better understanding about what officers do each day.
Classes are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Downtown Community Center, 28 E. Main.
Curriculum includes classes on crime prevention, use of force, crime scene investigations and high-risk traffic stops.
Highlight of the academy is a Saturday class set for November 14 at the Edmond Police Department Training Center, where participants will see demonstrations by the bomb squad, emergency response team and the K-9 unit. They also will be given the opportunity to try their skills on the firing range.
Graduation is scheduled for November 24.
All applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal record, be an Edmond resident or work within the city limits.
