Generational Leadership Workshop (7.7 miles)

Takes place at Chamber of Commerce Moore

Older and younger generations are spending more time together in the workplace, causing businesses to experience generational diversity.

On June 6, Oklahoma City Community College will partner with the Moore Chamber of Commerce to present the Generational Leadership Workshop from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Moore Chamber of Commerce, 305 W Main St.

Speaker Jan Astani will familiarize participants with the different types of generations, discuss why people of different age groups think and act the way they do, and teach strategies for working more productively with all generations.

Astani specializes in transformational speaking, training and writing. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma's School of Journalism, her background includes marketing, sales and real estate. She served as the Moore Chamber of Commerce president in 2011.

Astani is working on a book dedicated to her mother's memory, and she enjoys reading, traveling, blogging (http://janastani.wordpress.com) and Zumba.

Registration is $25 for Moore Chamber of Commerce members and $35 for nonmembers.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (1.1 miles)

Takes place at Tinker Business and Industrial Park

The OU Lean Institute will be offering a public session of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification training beginning February 27, 2012. Over the course of this training, students will learn to apply Lean and Six Sigma process improvement techniques to address real-world problems, following the DMAIC model (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), expanded with training covering the all-important recognition of problems and deployment of improvements.

The OU Lean Institute emphasizes applied learning as a training methodology and black belt students will complete an individual real-world process improvement project as a significant part of their training.

Twenty (20) days of classroom training spread over four months, with additional coaching by the instructor.

Week 1: February 27- February 2
Week 2: March 26 - March 30
Week 3: April 23 - April 27
Week 4: June 4 - June 8
Final Presentation: TBD

Greenhouse Production (8.2 miles)

The Oklahoma Nursery and Landscape Association will offer a short course on greenhouse production on June 20-21 for businesses that want to learn more about greenhouses.

The course will take place at the John E. Kirkpatrick Horticulture Center at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, 400 N Portland. Registration is under way now and costs from $80 to $200.
