BIOGRAPHY:
Lotti Elisabeth Hirschbürger-Lasseter
was born in Kassel, Germany, in 1933.
Her father, a physician well known throughout Hesse-Kassel,
and her mother, originally a seamstress to a couturier in Berlin,
shielded Lotti, their only child,
through the worst of the Third Reich years.
(Lotti -- called "Mama Lotti" by friend & family later in life --
often told stories about the Allied bombings of Kassel
that occurred sporadically between 1942 and 1945.)
Lotti married an American soldier in 1949;
she emigrated to the United States with her new husband
to his hometown of Abilene, Texas in 1953.
The young couple divorced a decade later.
After three years of remaining single,
Lotti met, fell in love with and married
Mobil Oil executive Clarence Lasseter in 1966.
The two traveled around the world for the next nineteen years,
as Mr. Lasseter's job required a great deal of travel.
Mr. Lasseter died unexpectedly in 1985.
Lotti was never the same thereafter.
She worked hard to finally achieve full U.S. citizenship in 1993 --
something that her late second husband would have loved.
