Elephant Bar's Mongolian Beef
Patrons of the Elephant Bar, 1845 Northwest Expressway, will find the wok-fried Mongolian beef is a delectable cuisine for the taste buds.
The tasty dish is made of thinly sliced, seared sirloin with shiitake mushrooms, Japones peppers and green onion, tossed in soy-ginger-garlic spiced sauce with a variety of mixed vegetables, and a choice of white or brown rice. The meal costs about $12.95. The restaurant also has several entrées for about $10.
While the dish is appetizing, you may need to wash it down with a cool drink because the salty taste can be overwhelming. The rice also offers a nice buffer for the palate from the sauce.
While the mixed vegetables put forth a variety of flavors for the taste buds, patrons should be aware that the dish will start a fire in their mouths if they take a bite out of the peppers. If you don’t want to risk accidently tasting the hot pepper, ask the server to hold the Japones.
It may not make the food better, but the low-light ambience of the restaurant is great for a date or an intimate gathering of friends. There also is a range of alcoholic beverages for customers to enjoy with their meal.
The Elephant Bar is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
